“We are used to not looking into people’s homes, but have you ever wanted to listen inside?” — Listening inside beautifully captures the vulnerability of this work: the audience listens inward and becomes a witness of an intimate moment between performer and instrument. On 31 January, we presented our first version of Living Room Orchestra in collaboration with three violinists — Roosmarijn Tuenter, Anan Alkadamani, and Nina Zuure — a technician, Leon van de Bor, Tivoli, and the neighborhood across from Tivoli. We asked neighbors living across Tivoli if they would be willing to host a professional violinist inside their home for a couple of hours during the night of the violin. We were lucky to find 5 house owners that loved the idea of having a violin player practicing in their room. On the night of the violin we invited the audience to look into the living rooms across the street from Tivoli and search for violinists practicing. Through a live connection, visitors could actually hear these violinists practice in those living rooms, via violins that became speakers, hanging from the ceiling in the Pandora foyer.
